Sunday, April 18, 2004

Placed by: Mark & Sue
Placement date: Apr 17 2004
State: Vermont
County: Windham
Nearest city: Wilmington
Number of boxes: 2

Box 1 is a commercial stamp that we'll carve and replace in the spring
Box 2 is the first hand-carved stamp by Cardinal of The Schmoopies

Directions:

Take 9 West out of Wilmington center. About 2.5 miles out of Wilmington center, take a left where you see a green, steel bridge. Bear left and continue along this road in a southerly direction. You will start to notice blue diamond markers on the trees. This is part of the Catamount Cross Country Ski Trail, which runs along Harriman Reservoir. Keep on this road until you see the sign for the Mt. Mills West Picnic Area and park your car in this lot.

Clues:

Head south along the dirt road. You will pass through a yellow gate. When the trail forks to the right off of the main trail, take this righthand road and count about 16 paces from the junction to a 3 sister birch on the left. Look under logs, leaves and "carpet" for BOX 1. Please rehide carefully and try to keep the "carpet" intact.

Go back to the main trail and continue southerly again. The trail begins to gradually climb uphill. Pass "Logging" and "Domestic Turkey" signs. Continue on the trail past some rustic housing.

The trail begins to turn west and the lake comes into view. At the second Catamount Trail marker on the left, count about 50 paces in a westerly direction. Look for a rock ledge close to the trail on the right where the ledge forms a small, exposed cave beneath. The rock appears to be resting on a birch. Your prize (Box 2) is in the cave. Please rehide carefully so the box cannot be viewed from any angle.

Have fun and just get out there & box!!!
